Meet The Specialists
Dr. Emily Shearer, Postdoctoral Fellow, received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Iowa. She received her B.A. in Psychology from Illinois Wesleyan University, and her M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Bradley University. She completed her APA accredited predoctoral internship at LittleStar ABA Therapy, part of the National Psychology Training Consortium, with a focus on Autism Spectrum Conditions.
Dr. Shearer specializes in working with neurodiverse children, adolescents, and their families on a variety of concerns, including Autism Spectrum Conditions, Intellectual Disability, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), and Specific Learning Disorders. She has also worked with children, teens, young adults, and families in a variety of settings, including a University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD), an outpatient child and adolescent hospital clinic, a junior high school, a university counseling center, a private practice, and a community mental health center.
Dr. Shearer’s therapy approach is influenced by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT). She enjoys integrating parents into the assessment and therapy process whenever possible. Dr. Shearer is passionate about service accessibility and equity for children and families from underserved backgrounds.
In her free time, Dr. Shearer enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading, exercising, and watching documentaries.
