Meet The Specialists
Dr. Edessa Mirzapolos, Licensed Clinical Psychologist, received her Psy.D. at Midwestern University, with an emphasis on children and adolescents. She completed her Bachelor of Science degree at Loyola University Chicago. Dr. Mirzapolos completed her predoctoral internship in pediatric psychology at Primary Care Psychology Associates.
Dr. Mirzapolos has served as a therapist and has administered psychological and neuropsychological assessments to help better understand a child’s presenting problem. She specializes in a variety of different clinical presentations including attentional difficulties, disruptive behaviors, autism spectrum disorder, learning disorders, anxiety, depression, school-related difficulties, and adjustment disorder. She also specializes in assessment for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), diagnostic clarification, learning difficulties, and social and emotional difficulties. Dr. Mirzapolos has had a wide range of clinical experience working with children, adolescents, and their families in a variety of different settings, including hospital outpatient clinics, community mental health facilities, therapeutic day schools, and primary care settings.
Dr. Mirzapolos takes a systemic approach to therapy, where she takes into consideration not only the child, but how parents/caregivers, schools, peers, and other professionals play a role in the child’s presenting problem. She utilizes an evidence-based therapeutic approach, with particular focus on Cognitive-Behavioral and Parent-Child Interaction therapies. She views parents/caregivers as an essential aspect of therapeutic change and thus, incorporates them into therapy as needed. Her research has focused on examining the potential overdiagnosis of ADHD among children and adolescents. In her free time, Dr. Mirzapolos enjoys spending time with family and friends, watching reality television, dancing, and working out.
